The Ghost Reappears

Mr. NYC Casa dropped me off to take the tramway as he had to go take care of business. I had spent the day with him running some errands and I felt like a child waiting for their parent-it was quite bizarre...

Waiting in a long line at the ticket machine, I was just fumbling through my purse for 7DH and I looked up and there he was.....

Mr. Casa on the phone walking and looking so happy and so good. He went up to a car window, which looked like he was talking to a friend. The car was near to me and I panicked and put my hood on and turned my head. He didn’t see me as he was occupied on the phone and talking to someone in the middle of the street.

I just stared and watched him walk down the sidewalk walking so happily and smiling on the phone. Perhaps it was his new girlfriend on the other end or perhaps he was just happy....

I had not seen him since October 2012, the day he kissed my cheek goodbye and we never saw one another again. I knew I would eventually see him sometime and somewhere... I guess that time was now on my 6 month anniversary of being in Morocco.

March 15 2012: 6 Months In Morocco

March 15, 2012 marked my official 6 month anniversary and Mr. NYC Casa thought it would be a nice idea to share cous cous together. Again, he presents with the Perfect Dose of Arab as he knows he needs to do something nice to pull me back in and it works-of course.  Lately, his behaviour has been sporadic and he has been “challenging,” but he makes up for it being sweet and adorable.

He introduces me to his friend, Rajaa, and I sit and speak with the helper in Arabic while he is talking away. It was great because I actually had a full Arabic conversation with Nadia. Nadia would explain ask him to translate or explain something to me, but he does not respond as he wants me to practice and learn.

Our cous cous comes out with chicken with almonds, dried prunes, and my favourite sauce.  We sit and Mr. NYC Casa begins to beat out a song on his leg humming the tune. His friend Rajaa begins to sing with a beautiful voice and I sit and stare at them smiling.

While eating our cous cous, he perfectly makes a space on the plate and my side looks messy. Of course, he comments telling me about the perfect way to eat couscous.  He will be critical of me and in these moments I feel a bit of shame and guilt.

At times I witness myself convert into this quite, submissive Muslim woman. Do I want to live as “Priscilla” or as “Priscilla trying to be perfect” for someone else... The answer is simple and easy, but I keep coming back for more...
We sit and enjoy the cous cous followed by fruit and tea. I always find peace and relaxation sitting in the Moroccan home and enjoying food.

Benjadiya Market

One of the best markets in town is my market right next to my home. They have anything and everything completely fresh- olives, nuts, spices, Moroccan pastries/breads, meat, fish, and practically any vegetable and fruit. The tastes coming from the market make me want to keep cooking as the freshness is priceless. Love, Love my market!

Don't Forget the Plaj

Living in Casablanca with the weather being quite rainy and gloomy, I sometimes forget that I am living right on the Atlantic Ocean.  The beach in Casa is not the best beach in the world, but it has an absolutely breathtaking sky-divine.
In general, Morocco has one of the most beautiful skies ever.  The beach itself has great waves and each and every time I see them I think surfing would be a great idea.  While my friends engage in surfing in the cold weather, I prefer to wait for the warm weather to come.
It is interesting because at the age of 22 I lived in Huntington Beach, California known as Surf City and I only tried surfing one time. Living in the cities with such great waves, it is a shame to miss out on the fun.  Surfing is a great workout and it is exhilarating being out in the water.  Finally the weather is getting warmer and the waves and surfing become more appealing to me. I should at least experience it one time before I go or during summer-I definitely will do that.
