Sad But True
Help!! Need advice before moving to Morocco!!?
I am a single woman moving to Morocco - I haven't decided which town I want to be based in - either Rabat, Tangier or Casablanca. I will be looking to buy an apartment and start a business in Beauty Therapy. I have been warned that there are a lot of scams and dishonest people and I am a little concerned seeing as I don't know anyone there, and don't know who to trust. I am appealing to those who have already made the transition to morocco and who have gone through the process of buying real estate and/or starting a business over there.I would really appreciate it if someone has had dealings with business lawyers/solicitors and real estate agents in Morocco and have been pleased with the results, please PM me.

This is quite the move. I don't mean to discourage you but you need someone in Morocco to help you get settled.
The pros:
- Starting a small business in general is not expensive compared to Western countries
- Standard of living is low
- Weather is warm (if you're into that)
The cons
- The mentality is different. You will have to adjust to Moroccans
- Many small things are a big deal in Morocco (i.e. administrative procedures, driving, general disrespect, lack of order, ...)
- Everyone will expect you to have money as a westerner (They will not comprehend that you might not be rich)
- A patriarchal society
- Health system is terrible compared to European countries
- Dishonesty is very common
I can't imagine you navigating the Moroccan administration while you are starting a business without having to bribe all kinds of people and being taken advantage of.
It's feasible. You just need help.

I think establishing a business as foreigner and a single woman is a hard thing if you don't have a Moroccan who is so familiar with the process and how the law works, it's easy to find a lawyer but you should be prepared to pay big bucks.

Yeah, don't move here. there is a reason why millions of Moroccans left and thousands of Moroccan men spend 16 hours a day in chat rooms begging women to marry them so they can get out.
Expect to pay alot of bribes, paying more than what moroccans pay, sexual harassment, burglaries(people will assume you are rich)
