Exiting The Safety Zone

When you start working on your own, you have officially exited the “safety zone.” Working alone takes things to a whole new level with you being the sole person responsible for everything.  If you dont' do it, it doesn’t get done. And when it comes to relying on someone-the only person you rely on is yourself. People may say they want to help you with this or help you with that and you smile kindly and do not rely on their words.  It will be done if you do it yourself.

When it comes down to it, life can be much easier working in the safety zone  having everything planned and laid out for you, consistency, routine, allocating roles for the company to different people, and having a consistent pay check. The socially constructed society we live in teaches us that life is better inside the safety zone with a big company-it is secure, stable, safe- does this necessarily mean it is better for us?  People make you believe that the safety zone is the best place to be.   When you step outside of it, people doubt you, question you, criticize you, demonstrate concern/curiosity, and wonder how you can do it.

You step outside of the company policy and create your own policy.  You do not ask to take vacation, you know when you can take a vacation and when you can’t take a vacation.  You work hard because it is yours and noone can tell you how to run it.  You run it based off your own philosophies, values, principles, experience, and education.

When you experience fear, you think about running back to the safety zone.  But then you remind yourself how good it feels to do it all alone......PRIS

Don’t be afraid to exit the safety zone and pursue your dreams. Anything is possible if you put your heart and mind to it…PRIS
